JC Yellowstone Trip – June 18, 2014

Today we began our morning at 6am and awoke to a cold snow blowing from the west as we all managed to find warm clothes for our adventures for the day. With a makeshift breakfast of mini muffins and granola bars, we trekked out to the Geyser Basin to meet up Ranger Andrea. Along our morning hike with the geysers we came across many small and spurting thermal features while the sun shined and the snow lightly fell. Giving us the ins and outs of being a Ranger on geyser watch, teaching about the predictions and use of thermometers for the collection of data from geysers, Ranger Andrea was very helpful. We then had a second warm breakfast, which also served as lunch. From there we drove back to Lamar Valley for our last hike of the trip. We went off trail and saw a marmot, a herd of bison, and several birds. Next we continued to drive back to Mammoth and spotted a cinnamon-colored Black Bear. We finally arrived for the night back in Mammoth after our very long, and very lovely day.

We had a quiet moment at the confluence of the Lama River and the Yellowstone River.
