iLabs: New Museum Grant!!!

September 19, 2013

Our lab has been included in this new grant from IMLS. We will be able to hire a part-time educator to help us develop some specific genetics programs and classes that will tie in to projects in the Micro-Genomics research lab.  All of this is in the early stages of development, though we are looking at having classes featuring the biotechnology used to explore the symbiotic relationships between planthoppers and the bacteria in their guts.  That would include learning about DNA sequencing and all those neat techniques!

Even more exciting is the fact the grant provides money for transporting underserved students to the museum for these classes, as well as money to develop applications to help those with visual impairments participate in the classes as well.

To read more about all of this, read the article from the the Museum’s web page.  🙂  Can’t wait to get started!!!
