iLabs:Tentacled Creature of the Deep!
March 8, 2013
Just a little photo show for a Friday morning, of recent visitors to our lab. Here are some pics of Moon jellyfish ( Aurelia sp. )in the polyp stage, as seen on our 55″ lab TV. They “dropped by” thanks to our aquatics staff! The polyp stage is an early stage of development in the jellyfish.

Take a look at the other major Wikipedia page on jellies and other Cnidarians, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cnidaria#Cnidocytes , to learn about their stinging cells, which are called cnidocytes. They function as harpoons and venom injectors for catching prey.
Todd, thank you for your additional info. I so appreciate when you reply or email with more info.
